Important and pretty urgent - initial registration for DT265 students

This is for all DT265 students. DT8265 students please check out my post from Monday.

DT265 students who started in September are required to make an initial registration on the springboard AMS website to make sure that your funding is obtained from the HEA. This is basically a sanity check that the Higher Education Authority put in to make sure that the students we claim are studying, are studying. If you don't register your fees will not be paid by the HEA and you will then become liable for the fees. Sorry if this sounds scary - but we need to make sure you follow through with this.

If you started in September can you please follow these instructions to ensure that you have verified your attendance.

The process is as follows:
  1. Students who began in September and who are still in progress should log in to www.springboardcourses.ie using their email address and password [both required].
2.      Each participant should click on their email address which is displayed towards the top right hand side of the screen and select “Applications” from the resulting drop-down menu.

  1. The participant will see all courses to which s/he has applied in 2016. Beside the course they are currently registered on, they see an orange button/link marked “Register”. (The specific terminology might be different)

  2. On clicking on this Rgister button/link, they will be asked to confirm that they remain enrolled on this course.

  3. If the student is still enrolled on and intends to complete her/his course, s/he must click ‘OK’ to confirm this intent. This completes the reregistration process and the AMS database is updated. The screen will refresh and their registration status will be changed to “Confirmed”.
If a participant does not register throughwww.springboardcourses.ie, no further funding is paid on their behalf by the HEA.

Please note that this is very important and should be prioritised by all students. This information will be emailed directly to students.

This needs to be done by the end of this month but should in practice be done now.

All the best

Robert

Generation Exchange Evening - 2nd November 2016

This is for all current DT265/DT8265 students who are currently or will be looking for placement over the next year.

We will kick off in KA 1-017 (one of the labs) at 18:30 where the previous graduates will come in and try to give you some wisdom. Then, from 19:30 there will be some refreshments and nibbles available in the canteen.

In order to make sure there is enough tea / coffee etc I need some feedback on the number of people who will be attending. If you would like to come along just fill in the doodle below by entering your student number and indicating you can attend. If you will not be attending you can just ignore the doodle poll.

This is of all DT8265 students, i.e., those who began with us in January. You need to re-register with Springboard this week in order to continue to receive your funded place.

The process should take no longer than 5 minutes. The terminology below makes reference to Springboard students, but please note that the same instructions apply to students such as DT8265 students who are applied for through the ICT Skills programme.

2.      Each participant should click on their email address which is displayed towards the top right hand side of the screen and select “Applications” from the resulting drop-down menu.

  1. The participant will see all courses to which s/he has applied in 2014. Beside the course they are currently registered on, they see an orange button/link marked “Re-register”.

  2. On clicking on this Re-register button/link, they will be asked to confirm that they remain enrolled on this course.

  3. If the student is still enrolled on and intends to complete her/his course, s/he must click ‘OK’ to confirm this intent. This completes the reregistration process and the AMS database is updated. The screen will refresh and their registration status will be changed to “Confirmed”.
If a participant does not re-register throughwww.springboardcourses.ie, no further funding is paid on their behalf by the HEA.

Hi, Information System will start at 3 pm today. Sorry for the confusion.
Cindy Liu

Information System Class today

The Information System class will start at 4pm today only instead of 3pm as stated in the timetable.

Software Development Stream - Enterprise Applications Development starts Tuesday Evening

Hi folks,
You may have noticed that the Enterprise Applications Development module has an awful lot of lectures listed. In practice the number of hours per week is the same as standard modules. The reason for this is that these lectures are delivered as per the following schedule for the semester:

Lectures :
13/sep/2016 6:00-10:00 EVENING
20/sep/2016 12:00-4:00 DAY
27/sep/2016 6:00-10:00 EVENING
no class
11/Oct/2016 6:00-10:00 EVENING
18/Oct/2016 12:00-4:00 DAY
25/Oct/2016 6:00-10:00 EVENING
no class
08/Nov/2016 6:00-10:00 EVENING
15/Nov/2016 12:00-4:00 DAY
22/Nov/2016 6:00-10:00 EVENING

Thus the first lecture this semester will be tomorrow in the evening at 6pm.

All the best

EAD class this evenign

Hi All EAD'ers

Final Class is this evening at 5:30!

I will finish up Webservices and REST and then hopefully have time for some revision questions at that stage.

Also I've done up an 'your opinions of the course' survey and was wondering if ye could all complete it at some stage?

Its totally anonymous and its just a few questions on what you found good/bad about the course and what ways you think it could be improved.

This has nothing to do with the college itself, its just useful for me as a means of finding what's wrong/right with the module content and delivery (and how i can improve the module)

(don't be afraid to be critical as criticism is great compass for improvement)

The survey is available at :
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/9DBNY2D

John

EAD : missing 'Deploy' opting in IIS manager

Hi all EAD'ers
I was looking into the missing 'Deploy' opting in IIS manager (when you right click 'Default Web Site' the 'Deploy' sub menu is missing)
It seems that this is a common enough issue when working with IIS
The main reason, it seems, is that you do not have Web Deploy installed on your machine
Follow this link :
If you still can see it try the following :
Here are some things you can try )
1)  ensure you run IIS manager in admin mode : then see if Deploy menu present
2) Go into Control Panel, Uninstall Programs, Microsoft Web Deploy X.X and choose Change, Install all the features,  restart IIS Manager and then see if Deploy menu present.
3) Search 'iis why cant i see deploy menu' is google :)

Each student in the Institute is requested to complete this process (max 10 minutes) in advance of Sunday 24th April 2016; please follow this link to begin http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/2665603/DIT-Student-Feedback-Form-2015-16

Oppertunity to make some cash

Hi there,
Dave Kilmartin for the DIT Careers office is looking for one of our students to do a small bit of work on coding up a web survey. This is a once off task with a payment of about 800 euro. In addition to the money, this would be a nice thing to have on the CV as a project.

The survey would be a bit more complex than can be handled by Survey Monkey so a HTML5 form based survey would be best. I can provide guidence on this.

If you are interested in this drop me an email. This would have to be done in the next month or so. This is suited to someone who is feeling comfortable with their programming skills.

Robert

This position has been filled.

  3. If the student is still enrolled on and intends to complete her/his course, s/he must click ‘OK’ to confirm this intent. This completes the reregistration process and the AMS database is updated. The screen will refresh and their registration status will be changed to “Confirmed”..
Please note that the default re-registration status is NO. If a participant does not re-register through www.springboardcourses.ie, no further funding is paid on their behalf by the HEA.

Enterprise Application Development

Hi folks,
Due to John Walsh not being available this week the Enterprise Application Development module will kick off next Tuesday at 6:00 in lab 3-005 in the Annex Building. Please note that this start time of 6:00 PM is new on the timetable. The timetable also has a new one hour slot of Enterprise Application Development for Thursdays at 4:00 until 5:00.

John will explain the details of the timetable to you next week in class. It is not a standard vanilla timetable with the same lecture times being used each week, so please make sure to attend next Tuesday and get the detailed schedule from John.

So, in summary there is no Enterprise Application Development class or lab this week. However lectures in this module begin next Tuesday at 6:00 in KA 3-005.

Thanks a million

Robert

OO Software Development 2

Hi folks in the ASD Stream,

This is a belated note to say that the OO Software Development 2 module will begin next Monday at the scheduled time. This was due to a miscommunication by me.

The missed class will be rescheduled if necessary with you for later in the semester. Jonathan can work out those details with you when you meet.

Sorry for the inconvinience!

Robert

NB : EAD -> last semesters class

Hi All EAD students from last semester (before Christmas)

I've noticed that some people have not uploaded CA2.
For those of you that were part of a team project => All members of the team need to upload the CA!  (not just one member)

You still need to upload CA2 if you were part of a team project and your team mate uploaded the CA

This is so I have a record that all students submitted CA2

regards
John
